Why are we at rasp.cc?

Q. RASP's URL has an odd extension. Why?
A. RASP's web address uses a dot-cc (.cc) extension. The CC stands for the Territory of Cocos Islands, also known as the Keeling Islands, two atolls and twenty-seven coral islands with a total population of approximately 600 that are governed by Australia. When the Internet naming process was implemented, every country was given a two-letter abbreviation called the Top-Level Domain (TLD—such as .us, .uk. .de, etc.). Smaller countries have the option to make money by licensing their TLDs as commercial websites through alternative doman name registrars. These domain names usually cost less than the standard TLDs of .com, .net, .org, etc. Using the .cc TLD helps RASP stay fiscally responsible to our donors and supporters.
